Our screening/operating team received an enthusiastic welcome from the people of Banyuwangi when they visited with two mobile clinics from 19-25 October. Banyuwangi is on the coast of East Java, a short ferry-ride from the west coast of Bali.
The activity was funded by Feelgood Designs, a Melbourne-based furniture business, and supported by the Banyuwangi Red Cross, the Government of Banyuwangi and the local Perdami (Indonesian Ophthalmologists Association). During the six-day event the team was kept busy operating 251 cataract blind people in the mobile clinics, and checking 2,434 people with eye problems, of whom, 1,360 were issued with glasses and 760 with eye drops.
