New Surgical Microscope Strengthens Offshore Programs

Thanks to the generous support of the Champaca Fund through the Asia Community Foundation, the Foundation acquired a new portable Karl-Kaps ophthalmic microscope in June 2025.

Designed to support JFF’s mobile programs, the microscope can be used in both local hospitals and the JFF mobile eye clinics, allowing surgical teams to deliver high-quality cataract surgery even in remote locations. It was first used during an offshore program in Bondowoso, East Java shortly after its arrival and has since been used in all of the offshore programs throughout Indonesia.

This new microscope has greatly supported our medical team in restoring sight through surgical procedures for patients who would otherwise have little or no access to specialised eye care. We are deeply grateful to the Champaca Fund for helping make this possible.

The John Fawcett Foundation (JFF) is a humanitarian not-for-profit organisation which assists needy people in Indonesia, particularly in the field of sight restoration and blindness prevention. It offers its assistance to Indonesian citizens in the lower socio-economic group free of charge and without religious, political or ethnic consideration.
