What if, in a single day, the power to see was given back to those who had lost it? This September and October, JFF’s Bali Village Eye Program reached 27 villages, screening 5,349 individuals, and bringing sight to 73 through cataract surgeries. In two months, 3,167 people received glasses, and 1,639 were given essential eye drops, offering them much-needed relief, comfort, and a sense of normalcy. Our team continues to lay the groundwork for a Bali where eye health is within reach, not a privilege for a select few.

Imagine the impact of bringing sight to thousands across Indonesia’s remote islands, where access to ophthalmological services is a distant dream. Between September and October 2024, JFF’s Offshore Eye Program managed to screen 4,590 individuals, administer 1,042 essential eye drops, distribute 1,596 prescription glasses, and perform 650 cataract surgeries. For many, this was a life-changing opportunity to see clearly for the first time in years. With the backing of local governments and health departments, our team was able to execute the program efficiently and maximise the impact of our resources.

For those who have lost an eye, the journey to reclaiming confidence can be challenging. Throughout September and October, JFF fitted 28 patients with custom-made prosthetic eyes, designed to look natural and help them live free from social stigma. While these prosthetic eyes do not restore sight, they play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for those affected. Our skilled ocular technician, in collaboration with JFF’s consultant ophthalmologist, crafts each one using high-quality materials, ensuring that the colours match perfectly with the patient’s real eye.
