Offshore eye programs in Bondowoso and Banyuwangi (East Java), Lamandau (Central Kalimantan) and Malaka (West Timor, NTT)
Outcomes: 10,710 people with eye problems screened, 5,407 issued with glasses, 3,241 treated for eye infections, and 510 underwent cataract operations to restore their sight.
The team were in Bondowoso, East Java, for World Sight Day, accompanied by the Loveheart Group donors, where 286 cataract blind people had their sight restored.
Outcomes: 2,512 people with eye problems screened, 1,549issued with glasses, 873 treated for eye infections, and 71 underwent cataract operations to restore their sight.
Twenty-eight people were fitted with custom-made prosthetic eyes – 14 females and 14 males. Most of these patients were assisted during our offshore eye programs in East Java.

Three offshore eye programs – Situbondo and Jember in East Java, and Sulawesi
Outcomes: 5,993 people with eye problems screened, 3,279 issued with glasses, 1,615 treated for eye infections, and 592 underwent cataract operations to restore their sight.
Outcomes: 3,632 people with eye problems screened, 2,371 issued with glasses, 1,413 treated for eye infections, and 75 underwent cataract operations to restore their sight.
Twenty-nine people were fitted with custom-made prosthetic eyes – 19 females and 10 males.
The JFFA Board held its quarterly meeting in Bali in August; Board members also attended a village eye program and held strategic discussions with the Bali team.
The annual blessing ceremony at the Foundation was held in the first week of July. All staff gathered together to pray and wish everyone the best for their health and the success of all JFF’s programs into the future.
Two eye programs in East Java and one in Labuan Bajo, Flores, were held in May and June, during which total of 704 sight restoration operations were performed.
During May and June our team conducted 13 village eye programs, 8 eye clinics and 7 operating sessions at Headquarters, resulting in 92 blind people being restored to sight.

Twenty-six people were fitted with custom-made prosthetic eyes in May and June – 13 females and 13 males. Ages ranged from 10 to 75, with the majority receiving their first artificial eye. Four of the patients were from Bali, while 22 received their artificial eyes during JFF’s offshore eye programs.

In March, JFF’s ophthalmology consultants, Professor Bill Morgan and Dr Jean-Louis DeSousa, attended the Bali International Ophthalmology Symposium. Professor Morgan talked on ‘Choosing Appropriate Glaucoma Surgery’ and ‘Using Machines to Make Decisions in Glaucoma’, and Dr Jean-Louis delivered a talk on ‘Updates in Transconjunctival Blepharoplasty’.
