Our first offshore program of the year was a remarkable success, measured not just by numbers, but the countless lives transformed through our efforts. A shout out to the ophthalmologists, nurses, and support staff who worked tirelessly to make March and April a productive phase.
Offshore eye programs in Bondowoso and Banyuwangi (East Java), Lamandau (Central Kalimantan) and Malaka (West Timor, NTT)
Outcomes: 10,710 people with eye problems screened, 5,407 issued with glasses, 3,241 treated for eye infections, and 510 underwent cataract operations to restore their sight.
Three offshore eye programs – Situbondo and Jember in East Java, and Sulawesi
Outcomes: 5,993 people with eye problems screened, 3,279 issued with glasses, 1,615 treated for eye infections, and 592 underwent cataract operations to restore their sight.
Two eye programs in East Java and one in Labuan Bajo, Flores, were held in May and June, during which total of 704 sight restoration operations were performed.
Our team flew to Bajawa on the island of Flores in April to conduct an eye screening and operating program. Outcomes: 520 adults with eye problems were checked, and 120 received sight-restoring operations.
