The Mission

In 2025, two Australian junior doctors will join the John Fawcett Foundation in Indonesia – a country with some of the world’s highest rates of preventable blindness. The JFF already treats 54,000 patients annually, but there are countless more who need care. This mission will help expand that vital work.

Your support can help make it happen.

Meet Your Volunteers

Dr Martin Hein

Martin is a Perth-based junior doctor combining clinical excellence with research innovation. His goal: leverage data and research to create lasting change beyond individual treatments.

“I want to uncover insights that transform how we approach preventable blindness. Every patient we help brings us closer to serving these communities even better.”

Dr Murie Sundravel

Murie brings passion for global health equity and hands-on clinical care. Her focus: delivering quality eye care where it’s needed most while building sustainable partnerships.

“I’ve seen how transformative restoring sight can be. This represents everything I believe in – making my skills count where they matter most.”

What They’ll Accomplish

The 2025 Capstone Project

Martin and Murie are transporting and integrating a cutting-edge retinal camera into JFF’s Electronic Medical Record system. This important technology will capture crucial epidemiological data, enable diabetes and glaucoma screening, and form the foundation for significant clinical and research outcomes.

Clinical Exchange & Learning

Beyond their technical project, Martin and Murie will spend significant time working in JFF’s clinics and outreach programs. They’ll provide hands-on clinical support while learning from experienced colleagues and local healthcare providers. This exchange benefits everyone – patients receive additional care, while the volunteers gain invaluable real-world experience in global health.

Teaching & Knowledge Sharing

The volunteers will also contribute their fresh perspectives and recent training to help teach and support other team members. This two-way exchange strengthens the entire program and helps build lasting connections between Australian and Indonesian healthcare approaches.

Where Your Money Goes

Your donation directly funds:

  • Clinical exchange program supporting hands-on patient care and learning
  • Retinal camera transport and setup for advanced diagnostic capabilities
  • Outreach clinic operations bringing care to remote communities
  • Sight restoration surgery for those who need it most

The Ripple Effect

One donation → Retinal camera setup → Advanced screening capabilities → Early detection → Prevented blindness → Transformed lives

Your support doesn’t just restore one person’s vision – it helps build the technology foundation for preventing blindness in future generations.

We’re incredibly grateful for this opportunity, but we can’t make the impact we’re hoping for without you. Every dollar goes directly towards restoring sight and hope. Thank you for believing in this mission and helping us make a real difference.
