Despite the rumblings and threats of eruption of Gunung Agung which resulted in many of the international participants unable to join in person, the 2017 International Ophthalmology Symposium hosted by the Bali Chapter of the Indonesian Ophthalmology Association (PERDAMI Bali) in collaboration with the Medical Faculty of Udayana University, Bali, and The John Fawcett Foundation, went ahead on schedule.
JFF’s ophthalmic consultant and symposium speaker, Dr Tony Moriarty, braved the volcano and travelled a long route from the UK to Bali via Surabaya to attend, while others attended via international links.
JFF is an active participant in the annual Symposium which brings together ophthalmologists from all over the world. The focus topic was ‘Updates in Ocular Manifestation of Malignancy, Infection-Immunology and Metabolic Diseases’.
