Our team travelled to the distant city of Manado in North Sulawesi in June to conduct an eye screening and cataract operating session. This activity was held in the district of Minahasa Utara in conjunction with the Indonesian Air Force, which provided logistics, assistance with transporting equipment and supplies, and accommodation for the team.
Over a three-day period the team screened 1,844 people with eye problems, issued glasses to 1,411 people to assist with visual acuity and treated 280 with eye infections. Sixteen blind people received sight-restoring operations.
Thanks to Dr Endro Pranoto SpM from Lombok and Dr Erwanda Fredy Purliawan SpM from East Java for working with the JFF team in this far-away location.
