Offshore Programs – Dompu, Sumbawa

In late September the JFF team made a second trip to Sumbawa at the invitation of PT Sumbawa Timur Mining, part of the company’s community social responsibility program to help the people in the mine’s locality. Using two mobile clinics and two ophthalmologists, the team operated 99 blind people, restoring their sight. 2,230 people were screened for eye problems, of which 1,435 needed glasses and 726 were treated for infections. The team also visited 7 schools, screening 1,356 students.

Thank you to PT Sumbawa Timur Mining who funded the program and invited JFF to work in their area, and to the two ophthalmologists, Dr Jusni Sarigh SpM and Dr Endro Pranoto SpM.
