JFF’s training team travelled to Papua in September to conduct further training in conjunction with LPMAK and PT Freeport for local nurses and medical personnel in eye screening, identifying cataracts, testing visual acuity and cataract surgery. The team was accompanied by Dr Jusni Saragih SpM from Medan, Sumatra.
During the 7-day program they screened 211 adults, 217 school children, distributed glasses to 192 and treated 100 for eye infections. Four people who were blind with cataracts were operated in a temporary theatre aboard a boat in this remote area.
