JFF’s ocularist, Wayan Wijaya, in addition to continuing his work in Bali, accompanied the team on the off-shore visits where he set up a working laboratory to make artificial eyes, and 22 people have been fitted with custom-made eyes over this two-month period as a result.
Samantha Mizzy, a volunteer ocularist from London’s Moorfields Hospital, travelled with the team to Jember to train Wayan in more sophisticated methods of making artificial eyes, resulting in an even better-looking eye and increased comfort to the wearer.
