Dear Friends of the John Fawcett Foundation,
It is with heavy hearts that we inform you of the passing of Win Jones on Thursday, 23rd October 2025. Win was not just a board member. He was one of the Foundation’s most steadfast champions, dedicating nearly three decades of his life to our mission of restoring sight and transforming lives.

A Legacy of Service
Win’s connection to our work began 37 years ago when, as a member of the Dalkeith Rotary Club, he learnt about the fledgling Bali Eye project from the West Perth Rotary Club. What started as an introduction became a lifelong commitment. Win served on the JFFA Board for almost 30 years, including five years as Chairman, guiding the Foundation through critical years of growth and development.
His extraordinary dedication was recognised when he was awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for his work with the Foundation. It was a testament to the profound impact of his service.

A Bridge Between Two Communities
Win’s love for Bali extended far beyond his board duties. For over 30 years, he and his wife Margaret travelled to Bali, staying at the same hotel and becoming woven into the fabric of the local community. To many Balinese, both our staff and the broader community, Win was family.
His compassion knew no bounds. Following the tragic Bali bombings, Win was instrumental in accommodating and facilitating care for victims who came to Perth for treatment. He opened not just doors but hearts during their darkest hours.
Win’s connection to the Dalkeith Bowling Club, where he was an active member, also benefited our Foundation for many years as the club generously hosted our AGM meetings.

Remembering Win
Those of us fortunate enough to work alongside Win knew him as a man of quiet strength, unwavering commitment, and genuine warmth. His loss will be felt deeply by everyone whose lives he touched, from our board and staff to the countless individuals in Indonesia who have regained their sight through the work he helped build.
Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his beloved wife Margaret, his family, and his extended Balinese family who will miss him dearly.
Win Jones’s legacy lives on in every eye we treat, every life we change, and every community we serve. We honour his memory by continuing the work he loved so much.
With gratitude and sadness,
The John Fawcett Foundation Board and Team
